Former Boston Mayor Marty Walsh Endorses State Senator Will Brownsberger for Reelection
Walsh cites Brownsberger’s record of steady, effective leadership in the State Senate
BELMONT, Mass. (July 24, 2026) – Former Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced today that he is endorsing State Senator Will Brownsberger in his campaign for reelection to the Massachusetts Senate. Walsh will formally announce the endorsement at a press conference at 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 27, at the State House steps.
“Will just puts his head down and gets things done,” Walsh said. “I have worked with a lot of legislators over the years, and Will is the kind of partner you want in office. He does not chase attention. He shows up, does the work, and delivers results for the people he represents. That is exactly what we need in the State Senate.”
Brownsberger has represented the Suffolk and Middlesex District since 2012 and currently serves as president pro tempore of the Senate. Over more than a decade in office, he has built a record centered on results rather than headlines, helping lead major criminal justice and policing reforms, chairing the Senate’s redistricting process, and negotiating landmark housing legislation. He has also been a steady advocate for public transportation and road safety across his district, working for years to secure funding for Red and Green Line improvements, bus lane expansions, and safer intersections along the Charles River corridor.
Walsh served as Mayor of Boston from 2014 to 2021, following 16 years representing Dorchester in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. In 2021, President Biden appointed him U.S. Secretary of Labor. Throughout his career in public service and organized labor, Walsh has been known for his direct, hands-on approach and his focus on delivering practical results for working families.
Brownsberger said he’s had a great working relationship with Walsh for many years.
